Functions & Objectives

Kenton Bushmans Chamber of Business and Tourism

  1. Tourism, being the activities of people visiting the area and the servicing of those     activities, is the major business development driver. The Executive Committee     has the responsibility of deciding on Tourism priorities and projects, and assigns tasks to the office staff.
  2. As a structure of the business community, oriented to the promotion of responsible tourism, the Chamber seeks to serve the local business community by:
    1. providing a website which members can use as a shop-window for their products. This applies not only to obvious products such as real estate, accommodation and restaurants, but to all businesses;
    2. ensuring a responsible, ecologically friendly, attractive environment for the activities of tourism and business, including infrastructure;
    3. widening the visibility of the area through special promotions and events;
    4. compiling a telephone guide, or other tools which the public can use to access the business community;
    5. encouraging the development of good business practices, including market-awareness and skills training;
    6. promoting social responsibility by helping members see the business benefit of participating in community projects, particularly those which in turn lead to a larger economically active population and/or better tourist facilities;
    7. widening the active business base by -
      - maintaining and establishing communication with members and non-members in order to allow them to perceive the benefits of membership, and
      - encouraging new entrants into business, which in our context will include mentoring and skills training;
    8. co-ordinating activities with other bodies, noting particularly but not exclusively that Ndlambe Municipality is a major partner, with many of the  same aims and functions.
